LIKE A FLY ON A WALL

Boots: Jeffrey Campbell, Shirt: Gap, Skirt: handmade

I like to give my students art projects they can do in their spare time. This one was almost a test to their responsibility, letting them paint on their own without my supervision. I'm happy to say, this is not a problem for this group at all, seriously a cool thing to have so much trust in my kids. But now since I've given them the go-ahead with this art project, they don't want to stop. Fifty bugs taking over the countertops, and still counting...

SO MUCH TO PROVE BEFORE WE GOT OLD

Pants: American Eagle, Shirt: H&M, Blouse: Wilfred, Necklace: from Thailand, Shoes: Sam Edelman

Decided to do poetry with my class, severly underestimating the difficult task of explaining poetry and how to create it with little kids. I have a habit of setting my sights really high for projects, and I assume that my students can do anything. I often have the mentality that if I believe they can do something, then they will. Sure enough, after a lengthy discussion and analysis (yep, with highlighters) of many other poems, my grade ones and twos sat down to write their own. Amazing! I was totally blown away by their attempts. Sometimes I feel like there's nothing I can't do with this class. Next up? Haikus. Specifically, for the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, which holds a Haiku Invitational. So stoked to see what my lil guys come up with!

RAINBOWS AND POTS OF GOLD

Skirt: Joe Fresh, Shirt: H&M, Sandals: Lacoste, Necklaces: American Eagle, and handmade by a student

Cannot believe Spring Break is already over. Only three months left! Makes me kind of sad to think that my year will be up with this class in no time. And so, term three, a chance to do some really creative projects with my kids. We made these recycled rainbows right before Spring Break but I only just got around today to putting them up for display (and I had to let the glue dry, we used A LOT of glue for this project...). This may be one of my craftiest art projects I've done with my students yet. They're sooo colourful in the hallway.  Anddd we came back to plants growing from our seeds we planted two weeks ago. Yay! What a great start to the week.

BE FAIR TO ME, I MAY DRIFT A WHILE

Shoes: Lacoste, Skirt: Joe Fresh, Top: Urban Outfitters, Backpack: MEC

Most mornings I do this: daydream about beaches and sunshine. Most days I do this: walk around my apartment with my new travel backpack on to get used to it. My trip is still months away, but I feel like if I pack and plan now, it will get here faster. If you have any recommendations for me for Southeast Asia, let me know!

WISH I COULD LIE IN THE SUN, THE SAME THINGS AS EVERYONE

Shorts: American Eagle, Shirt: Gap, Sweater: Zara, Shoes: Minnetonka, Bag: handmade, Shades: Ray Ban

Wehoo! The sun came out in Vancouver today and I wildly optimistically wore shorts. Silly me, don't I know already that even though it's sunny out it's still freezing? Damn tricky weather. Nevertheless, it was a good ending to Spring Break, which was far too short for my liking (New Westminster is like one of the only school districts in BC left that only gets one week for Spring Break, boo). But, a shorter time makes you take advantage of every fun opportunity you can get and not let days go to waste. Enjoy your weekends!

I DANCED ALL AROUND IT SOMEHOW

Sweater: Anthropologie, Skirt: H&M

So not the printed pants I was looking for, but found this sweet floral printed skirt and have been wearing it repeatedly. And btw, anyone know where I can find some dope printed pants? I know it's like shit fashion girls say, but days like today especially, where I wake up and the sun is shining and I think, damn it'd be a good day to wear printed pants, and then I realize I can't because I don't own any. Just me?

HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS THE WORDS

Feel like I've been spending too much time living under a Steveston rock lately, although the presence of Spring Break makes it so incredibly easy to just forget my cares and do whatever. Finally had to come back to reality and have lunch with my mom this afternoon, talk about things like work and school and if there will be an illegal teacher strike or not. But, that only lasted a few hours, and honestly, I'd rather spend my time off in dreamland, whether it's snowshoeing or watching hockey or renting movies, where I can eat chips for dinner and not feel judged, where I can wear the same pair of sweatpants three days in a row and not worry about dressing up, where I can spend my time chillin out with someone who makes me so happy just by doing the simplest things.

CONTRASTING THE SNOW

Prep work

Snow in Vancouver doesn't mesh well with the fact that we just planted our plant seeds in class yesterday, but hopefully warmer weather is coming soon. The sun did come out briefly to heat our freshly potted soil, a necessity for horticultural survival that we discussed. Other essentials? Water, nutrients, worms.. and love of course. How do you love a plant? my kids asked. Be nice to it, I said. Take care, pay attention. Plants have feelings too you know. So now, every once in a while, I hear one of my students talking to their plant, or visiting with it near the window, to check up on it they told me.

YOUNG HABITAT!

Dress: Club Monaco, Shoes: Urban Outfitters, Belt: unknown, Necklace: American Eagle, Coat: Gap, Scarf: Eddie Bauer

Spring activities planned every day this week leading up to Spring Break. Today, acrylic-painted jars in bright colours and patterns. Tomorrow, soil and seeds to be planted. Only, my students won't be told what they're planting, it'll be a surprise when things start to sprout. They went nuts trying to guess what we'd be planting, wild ideas of what might grow in our classroom garden. It's good to have a little mystery.

COME UP FOR AIR

Pants: Old Navy, Shirt: American Eagle, Necklace: from Thailand

Lazy weekends make it so hard to go back to work. I love having no agenda, no plans. But best of all, someone to do nothing with. Perfection.
